Immigration statistics

There is a lot of misinformation and obfuscation about how many foreigners are in Britain to live and work. There is a difference between EU nationals who, like it or not, have a right to seek work here as we do in their country, and non-EU immigrants and asylum seekers. The government makes matters worse and inflames hostile reactions by hiding the true statistics or trying to supress them.

Population statistics

2001: 58,789,194

2008: 60,943,912

On the basis of official immigration figures, ministers say the total population will reach 70million by 2028.

Overseas-born UK residents

6.5 million in the year to June 2008 (ONS).
